La historia de la banda comienza con un pedal de distorsión. Diego buscaba un sonido particular. Francisco había fundado recientemente un taller de pedales personalizado. Hablaron y acordaron ejecutar la idea, construir un pedal analógico de guitarra de metal personalizado. Al probar el pedal, Diego salió con un riff que era muy pegadizo. Francisco pensó que sonaba genial y que deberían hacer algo al respecto. Freddy llegó a la escena después de meditar quién podría aceptar la tarea de batería. La química fue completamente volátil. Primer ensayo y salió con 3 canciones que solo necesitaban ajustes menores. Zola nació en noviembre de 2012.

La cohesión de la banda comenzó a florecer rápidamente, teniendo la oportunidad de participar en un lugar organizado por la Secretaría de Cultura en Cali sin video o álbum a bordo (que era un requisito para participar en este tipo de evento). Después de 2014, Zola siente que fue un buen momento para comenzar a planificar la grabación del primer álbum, pero ocurrieron algunos problemas y esta idea tuvo que posponerse y retrasarse. La grabación del álbum tardó alrededor de tres años en hacerse realidad.

En 2019 fue el momento perfecto para editar su primer álbum larga duración el cuál tuvo buenas críticas. El álbum de ZOLA es fuerte. Permite al oyente disfrutar de cada pista y cada historia que se cuenta sobre ellas. En el año 2024 se lanza su segunda placa discográfica la cual también se encuentra disponible en todas las plataformas digitales.

Zola ha tocado en importantes festivales del circuito nacional como Rock Al Viento en Risaralda y Monsters Of Rock en Bogotá. En el año 2021 fueron representantes por Cali en el Festival Galeras Rock en Pasto. También en el Festival Internacional FIURA en Cali en 3 ediciones. En el año 2022 participó en el Festival Piendarock en el municipio de Piendamó en el Cauca y en Festival Bugatattoo en Buga, Valle. Así mismo, en el 2022 y 2023 fue invitado al Festival de bandas en el Subliminal Tattoo Festival en Jamundí, Valle y en el Festival Aquí Estamos Rock en Tuluá. En 2024 fueron invitados de nuevo al festival FIURA. En 2025 fueron parte como acto de apertura en 3 fechas de la gira de la reconocida agrupación española Saratoga en Colombia, Cali, Pereira y Bogotá. Entre otros procesos.

Actualmente la banda se encuentra preparando la tercera producción discográfica que incluirá 10 tracks con canciones en su totalidad cantadas en español, contrario a lo realizado con los dos álbumes anteriores.
